From my four years experience of QA in financial organisations it is evident that QA is misunderstood and is usually considered as an after thought or in most cases not thought about at all.

Financial institutions usually feel that they can rely on DEV teams to build a quality product, however if there is no mechanism in place to verify and validate the product, how does an organisation know whether they have a quality product?

That said if one gets the opportunity to demonstrate how QA should be applied and how it can help an organisation it is easy to change perceptions. I have seen this with my very own eyes, if one does a good job, one gains the trust of an organisation and is able to influence thoughts around software quality.

QA and DEV teams should strive for the same goal, that goal being to create a quality product, getting emloyees of the organisation involved as well really helps in getting the message across.
